The Fundamentals of Welding and Industrial Certification (AWS)




This workshop will provide:

Day 1- Basic review of TEA IBCs and implementation

  • A review of the current TEA Accountability List and brief overview of applicable licensure documents:
    • AWS D1.1, AWS D9.1, API 1104, AWS SENSE, NOCTI and ITM Maintenance
  • A basic overview of defects, visual inspection, and the use of welding inspection tools
  • A review of weld test lesson plans for basic AWS D1.1, AWS D9.1 welder certification

  

Day 2- Visual Weld Inspection Workshop

  • Hands-on practical inspection exercises looking at D1.1, D9.1, ASME and 1104 weld specimens.
  • Hands-on inspection exercises looking at AWS CWI plastic weld replicas.
  • Practical inspection worksheets and quizzes
  • Completing application paperwork for welder certification
  • Demonstrations and weld testing o

Important Session Information:


The workshop will require: •Welding helmets, welding gloves, long sleeves, safety glasses (required if welding) •Chipping hammer, wire brush, hand grinder, pliers, or vise grips •E7018 1/8” rods •A horizontal band saw, or abrasive wheel chop saw to cut welded steel plates •For new teacher certifications: 1/4" x 2” x 6”, 3/8” x 3” x 6” (amount depends on # of teachers) •For existing teachers, bring previously assigned weld inspection tools.
