Problematic Student Behavior: Let's Fix the Foundation
Share
This title is used by the MHI Behavior Specialists
Important Session Information:
Behavior issues in the classroom can feel like a never-ending cycle that frustrates teachers and overwhelms school resources. This powerful day of learning will help you break free. We begin by demystifying how the brain’s natural protective powers shape both student and staff interaction. Participants will learn how to spot "Downstairs Brain" reactions, apply strengths-based strategies, and practice concrete tools to boost "Upstairs Brain" functioning. Engaging stories, captivating visuals, and active problem-solving make this day of PD a lasting change-maker. Participants will be able to: 1. Understand and explain the connection between brain development and behavior, identifying the role that trust and mistrust play in being learning-ready in the classroom. 2. Discuss the parts of the brain involved in common frustrating behaviors. 3. Analyze behavior (our own and our students’) through a strengths-based lens, recognizing signs of “Downstairs Brain” activation and how that impacts classroom.
