Session Description: Effective communication is the foundation of learning, relationships, and independence. This professional development session is designed to equip special education teachers with the knowledge and tools needed to foster communication skills in their students. Participants will begin by defining communication and exploring its critical role in student success. The session will highlight the connection between communication and behavior, emphasizing how strong communication skills can reduce frustration and promote positive outcomes. Teachers will review key considerations in developing and selecting communication systems tailored to individual student needs. Participants will also investigate different student response modes and learn practical strategies for teaching communication across diverse settings.
