This introductory session is designed to support new school counselors in year 1-3 as they begin their journey in one of the most meaningful and impactful roles in education. Whether entering the field straight from graduate school or transitioning from another position, participants will gain a clear understanding of the foundational knowledge, skills, and systems needed to thrive in their first year.
Through interactive discussions, practical examples, and real-world guidance, new counselors will explore the essential components of a comprehensive school counseling program, including core responsibilities, ethical practice, data-informed decision-making, and effective collaboration with students, families, and staff. The session will also highlight tools and strategies to help counselors manage their time, set professional boundaries, advocate for their role, and build strong student-centered relationships.
