Ranch Life Learning: Place-Based Learning for the Elementary Classroom (AM Session)

This professional development workshop introduces Ranch Life Learning with Hank the Cowdog, an interdisciplinary education program from the National Ranching Heritage Center designed specifically for elementary classrooms. Through storytelling, history, science, and real-world ranching contexts, the program helps students explore agriculture, natural resources, and rural life in engaging and age-appropriate ways.

Important Session Information:

Aligned with Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), Ranch Life Learning provides educators with ready-to-use lessons, hands-on activities, and literacy-rich resources that support reading, social studies, and science instruction. During the workshop, educators will explore how place-based learning and narrative can deepen student understanding, build agricultural literacy, and strengthen connections between classroom content and the real world. Participants will leave with practical strategies for integrating Ranch Life Learning into their existing curriculum, along with access to classroom resources that support inquiry, critical thinking, and cross-curricular learning. This session is ideal for elementary teachers seeking engaging, standards-aligned tools that bring learning to life through meaningful stories and authentic Texas experiences.
