Session
Information:
Join us for a hands-on metals workshop exploring the traditional techniques of repoussé and chasing using lightweight 36-gauge copper. In this session, educators will learn how to safely and effectively create dimensional surface designs by pushing and shaping metal from both the front and back.
Participants will experiment with small hand tools to bend, emboss, and define intricate patterns and textures, transforming flat copper sheets into raised, sculptural compositions. The focus will be on accessible classroom adaptations, no torches or heavy equipment required, making this an ideal process for school art programs.
To complete the project, each design will be mounted in a mat frame that enhances the dimensional effect of the copper. Educators will explore ways to extend the project through mixed media by incorporating colored pencil or marker work into the mat border, adding contrast, pattern, and visual unity.
