Principal Evaluation System Training T-PESS




The Texas Principal Evaluation and Support System is the recommended principal evaluation system for the State of Texas, designed to provide support and feedback to principals in their professional development and help them grow and improve as leaders. This training is the prerequisite for the on-line T-PESS certification test required for all principal appraisers. For participants to be eligible to evaluate principals using T-PESS, they must also have completed ILD or AEL training.  AEL (Advancing Educational Leadership) has replaced ILD and may be taken before or after T-TESS training.  Beginning September 1, 2019 there will be a $125 certification fee, for all participants, to be paid to Region 9 before the end of the training.

Important Session Information:


Beginning in the 2021-2022 school year, the updated rubric will become the only Commissioner recommended principal evaluation instrument and the original rubric will no longer be available for use. Upon completion of this training, participants will receive their T-PESS appraiser certification. The Texas Principal Evaluation and Support System (T-PESS) is the Commissioner-recommended appraisal system used to evaluate principals in Texas. Grounded in the Texas Principal Standards, T-PESS focuses on reflection, goal setting, and continuous professional growth. This training is designed for individuals who appraise principals, as well as principals who want to deepen their understanding of the evaluation process. Participants will gain clarity on the T-PESS rubric, expectations, and alignment to the Effective Schools Framework and T-TESS.

  • There will be a $250 per day fee for out-of-region or non Region 9 District participants. If coop membership is required, there will be a $125 per day fee for non-coop participants.
