Jordan Binion Project: Mental Health Curriculum 2018-2019
For Teachers and relevant staff of grades 8-12


Participants will learn the warning signs of suicide. They will learn about mental illnesses as diagnosable medical conditions that impact the brain and affects a person’s thinking, emotional state and behavior. Participants will also learn about disruption to a person’s ability to work or cope with daily activities. Learn myths around perceptions about mental health. Learn the connection between mental health and relationships and life.

Important Session Information:
Anna (Chris) Baltrukovicz is Safetalk certified, Mental Health First Aid certified, OSPI Mental Health in the High School certified, and has an SME in ACES and Suicide Awareness. Lauren Swanberg has a Masters degree in Psychology and Education with an emphasis in Community Mental Health. Lauren is the school counselor at a small high school in Tacoma and is responsible for handling crisis situations at school, calming students when they are in crisis, de-escalating or averting crisis and doing preliminary evaluations for mental health referrals.
