LETRS Module 1 2019-2020 TPEP Teacher Criterion 4

This module explores the nature of skilled reading; the progression of reading development; the reasons why many children do not become good readers; the influences of biological, linguistic, environmental, and instructional factors in learning to read and the components of effective reading instruction. Special sections address scientific reading research and instructional leadership within a response to intervention (RTI) model. 8:00 a.m. - Welcome and Introductions - How the brain learns to read. - How children learn to read and spell. 11:30 a.m. - Lunch break 12:30 p.m. - Dyslexia and other causes of reading disability. - Research base for understanding reading. - Leadership to improve reading and language skills. 3:00 p.m. Closing
