Invent to Learn: Designing and Implementing "Makerspaces" in Classrooms
Invent to Learn - ITI Year 3

Join colleagues for 4 days of hard fun and problem solving (Day 1 & 2 - September 22 & 23, 2015; Day 3 & 4 - December 10 & 11, 2015)— where computing meets tinkering and design. The workshop begins with the case for project-based learning, making, tinkering, and engineering. Next, we will discuss strategies for effective prompt-setting. You will view examples of children engaged in complex problem solving with new game-changing technologies and identify lessons for your own classroom practice. Powerful ideas from the Reggio Emilia Approach, breakthroughs in science education, and the global maker movement combine to create rich learning experiences. Participants will have the chance to tinker with a range of exciting new low- and high-tech construction materials that can really amplify the potential of their students. Participants will explore the essential elements of effective PBL, how thematic curriculum can make connections and meet standards, and design technology and engineering. The workshop will be lead by Sylvia Martinez and Gary Stager, Ph.D., experts in authentic education and project-based learning enhanced by technology. Authors of the best-selling book, Invent To Learn: Making, Tinkering, and Engineering in the Classroom, Dr. Stager and Ms. Martinez have been working with schools around the world to bring the global revolution known as the maker movement to students and teachers.
