Geospatial Technology Education UCA STEM
The Arkansas D.O.E. has released new middle school Social Studies Curriculum Frameworks to be implemented this fall. This workshop frames the new Content Standards using applied, hands-on experience on the most commonly used spatial analysis software package: ArcGIS. The online platform of this powerful software is available for free to every school in the country and can be utilized by teachers and students to create maps, analyze existing data, and collect and organize local information. Workshop activities are designed to conform with the new curriculum framework.
Important Session Information:
A one-day beginner-level workshop to introduce the ArcGIS Online platform for geography education. Workshop participants will gain experience in the following: Basic GIS methodologies, Data collection and organization skills, Developing locally-relevant lessons using available data, Putting spatial questions in the context of state geography frameworks. A one-day intermediate-level workshop will be offered at the University of Central Arkansas as a follow-up to beginner workshop attendees wishing to expand their proficiency with ArcGIS Online. : Attendees should be geography or social studies teachers from Arkansas schools looking for better GIS skills. ** Up to 6 hours of PD Credit for full-day attendance ** No prior GIS knowledge is necessary, though comfort with internet browsers will be helpful.
