SCSC- Standards In Practice

Standards in Practice is a 6 step process that allows teachers to collectively reflect to increase the rigor of assignments and the achievement of students. The core of Standards in Practice (SIP) process is the focus on improving assignments. That is, participants will examine the rigor of the assignment aligned to standards and then discuss the tasks that match the quality of the student work based on the teacher assignment. Teacher will examine student work as part of the conversation, but if the assignment is flawed, then the process bypasses the student work and focuses on repairing the assignment. When the results are analyzed based on the student, teachers collaborate to identify ways to improve the instruction for the students who did not master the standards. This team-based, grade level or subject-based professional learning experience is job embedded and requires team interaction, fosters a change in school culture, uses student work to drive instruction, and produces a cooperative, can-do mindset in school personnel. TESS components addressed for this workshop include: 1E, 1F, 3D, &3E.
