SCSC - Write Like This! Professional Book Study! Professional Book Study

Want to try a new, flexible format for receiving your professional development hours? Then, this is the workshop for you! This is available for teachers in grades 4-12 of all content areas that use writing. Participants will receive a copy of Write Like This by Kelly Gallagher and be a part of a virtual book study. Initially, there will be one, three hour face-to-face meeting on June 7th, 2017. The rest of the training will be virtual: done through Google, discussion forums, and Zoom online meetings. At this training, participants will learn how to use and access the online tools used to complete this professional development. These tools include Google Sites, Google Docs, Zoom and/or Moodle. After the initial training, participants will read and complete a total of nine Conversation Guides via Google Docs. In addition, participants will be asked to participate in at least four to five Zoom virtual meetings, complete and submit a lesson plan based on ideas learned in the text, and create a writer’s notebook. All participants will be asked to take a pre and post survey in order for data to be collected on the effectiveness of the course. The course will last from June 7th, 2017 until August 9th, 2017. If all of the requirements are completed, then each participant will receive a total of 25 hours professional development hours. It is limited to only ten participants at this time. Important Session Information:

For member districts of the SCSC Professional Development Consortium the fee has been waived. All other participants including nurses and paraprofessionals will pay the listed fee. All professional development (PD) sessions require a minimum number of participants. If the minimum number is not met; the PD session will be canceled two weeks prior to the event. Registrants for the session will be notified by email (the address tied to escWorks). In the event that an individual cannot attend the session for which he/she registered, it is the individual’s responsibility to cancel using his/her escWorks shoebox. Cancellations may take place up to the day before the session(s). All "no-shows" will be invoiced the full price of the session(s) not attended. No credit will be awarded until the fee is paid.
