NWAESC(2095)---Defining & Developing Number Sense in K-2 Classrooms

“Children who do not acquire number sense early in their mathematics education struggle throughout their entire subsequent school and college years.” (Keith Devlin, Mathematician and Professor at Stanford University) - So what exactly is number sense and how do we develop it in our students? During this session we analyze progressions of number sense to help us define this seemingly difficult goal. We will also consider what experiences students need in order to develop number sense. Follow up opportunities will be available for those interested.
