This 3 day workshop is designed for teams to design one comprehensive, balanced common assessment system (formative and summative assessments) for an upcoming unit of study. Periodic instruction will be provided by an outside expert to lead the teams through the entire process. Please plan to attend as a team and bring the relevant resources (standards, curriculum, past assessment(s), etc.) for the unit (Note: depending on the work involved, time may permit for more than one unit design, so plan to come with resources for a possible second option). It’s helpful to select the unit of study that is most challenging or most in need of refreshing / improving for the upcoming year. Quality criteria, templates, protocols, and professional feedback will be provided to support the team’s designing efforts. The three days will cover the full range of topics from selecting the appropriate assessment method, designing the assessments, creating the appropriate attending tools (rubrics and scales, student tracking forms, etc.) to incorporating tools for student involvement in the assessment process. The session is designed to include large group instruction, small breakouts for specific requests, team work time, and sharing/feedback opportunities. Come with your team and leave with a plan!
