GREC-A Perspective on Cutting: The Most Prevalent Form of Non-Suicidal Injury



  • Cutting is the most prevalent form of non-suicidal self injurious behavior.  Studies report rates as high as 47 % in some adolescent community samples.  This presentation will discuss the prevalence, causation factors, appropriate and effective intervention strategies, treatment and prevention.  Participants will:  1. Be able to distinguish between social and internal influences on cutting behaviors.  2.  Understand why common disciplinary actions are ineffective.  3.  Be able to better see the world through the eye of a cutter.  4.  Learn more effective intervention strategies.  5.  Be better able to assist and support parents of cutters.

TEACHERS NOT WORKING UNDER CONTRACT WITH THE SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN THE GREAT RIVERS CO-OP AREA WILL BE PLACED ON A WAITING LIST.  YOU MAY CONTACT GREAT RIVERS 24-48 HOURS BEFORE THE WORKSHOP TO CHECK FOR AN OPENING.  YOU WILL BE CHARGED A $25.00 FEE PER DAY, $15.00 PER HALF DAY TO ATTEND WORKSHOPS AT GREAT RIVERS.  PLEASE REMEMER THAT IF YOU REGISTER FOR A WORKSHOP AT GREAT RIVERS AND DO NOT ATTEND AND DO NOT CANCEL AHEAD OF TIME, YOUR DISTRICT WILL BE BILLED FOR EACH WORKSHOP YOU FAIL TO ATTEND WITHOUT CANCELING.  IF YOU CAN NOT CANCEL ON LINE PLEASE CALL GREAT RIVERS AT 870-338-6461.
