DSC Lowering Social Risk in Middle School & High School Mathematics Classrooms

Mathematics classrooms can be socially risky places for students, especially at the Middle School and High School levels. In this session, participants will be introduced to five factors that lower the risks and raise the benefits of students’ participation. Case studies of motivational classrooms embedded with these factors, and recent personal experiences will be shared, and examined. Each participant will receive a copy of Motivated: Designing Math Classrooms Where Students Want to Join In by Ilana Seidel Horn.
