Strategic Instructional Model (SIM) – Adolescent Literacy Strategies (Science) Grades 5-12

If you are looking for tools to help your student read and comprehend science text, this workshop is for you.

Participants will participate in an overview of the Strategic Instruction Model (SIM) and learn one of the routines.  SIM is a comprehensive, research-validated approach to adolescent literacy that addresses the needs of students to be able to read and understand large volumes of complex materials as well as their need to be able to express themselves effectively in writing.  All of the routines promote direct, explicit instruction to facilitate problem-solving and critical thinking skills for students. SIM is designed to provide support for teachers and students throughout the school year as they learn new routines.

TESS Components: 3a, 3b, 3c, 3d
