A comprehensive approach to vocabulary instruction develops interest in and appreciation of words by addressing three aspects of word consciousness: context-based instruction, word-specific instruction and generative morphology instruction. This session will focus on developing reading and writing vocabulary through a word-specific approach appropriate for both whole class and interventions. The required text, Vocabulary Their Way: Word Study with Middle and Secondary Students, provides lessons and assessments for both ELA and content teachers.
