DSC Structuring a Literate Environment in K-1

Every day throughout the year, teachers read to students during the Read Aloud, read with students during Shared Reading and Guided Reading, and listen to and assess students’ reading during Independent Reading. During Word Study, teachers provide explicit and systematic phonics instruction. In the writing block, teachers model excellent writing during the mini lesson; share the pen with students during Shared and Interactive Writing, and conference with students as they write independently. In this training we will focus on the structure and components of a Balanced Literacy Classroom.
