Using ACT Aspire Suggestions to Support Struggling Readers in Grades 6-8

How do you define a reader who is close to levels of proficiency or in need of extended support? Once identified, how can you target students' needs and plan effective lessons for those readers? This professional development provides mid-level teachers the opportunity to examine the Performance Level Descriptors (PDL) for their grade, as outlined by ACT Aspire, and participate in reading activities based on the Improvement Ideas for Summative Tests document. Teachers will also have the opportunity to spend time planning their own reading lessons based on specific components of the PLDs. This session is ideal for any reading teacher in grades 6-8 who is responsible for RTI or wants to learn more about ways to support struggling readers in the classroom.

TESS Components: 1A, 3D
