NAESC Shifting Small Group Instruction to Match the Science of Reading
In this workshop, we will focus on how to shift our small group instruction to match the science of reading. Participants will learn how to look at K-1 assessments to drive small group instruction and what science says about when to focus on what in early reading instruction. We will look at the progression and shifts in skills needed to be a reader from the beginning of kindergarten to the end of 1st grade to determine appropriate instruction. We will also look at specific ways to plan differentiated small groups based on data. Participants will leave with practical ways to shift their small group instruction to ensure future success with more complex texts.
