Effective or expert readers are strategic. They have purposes for their reading, adjust their reading to each purpose, and use a variety of strategies and skills as they construct meaning. These strategies are often introduced in the intermediate grades, but some students require additional explicit instruction once they reach middle school or junior high school. This professional development session provides teachers the opportunity to experience various strategies lessons using fiction and nonfiction texts, as well as discussion protocols and writing options related to reading. These strategies and activities are aligned with standards from the Strategic Reading course/s. TESS Components: 1A, 3C
This session is ideal for any mid-level teacher who is responsible for remediation courses or ELA teachers who want to refine their lessons for reading in the regular or special education classrooms.
