SWAEC- Understanding Root Issues of Student Behavior Challenges

In my 33 years of K-12 education, and 11 years of teaching college, I have NEVER met a student who ever wanted to be a behavior problem. So, why are they? Participants will discuss recent behavior challenges they have experienced in their classrooms. We will explore :

  • The underlying cause of the behavior.
  • What does the behavior possibly cover up
  • Why the behavior “works” for the student
  • Primal brain vs. Modern brain - when to confront, when to back off
  • Positive ways to intervene when a student is off task
  • Strength vs. deficit approach – reframing our perspectives
  • Building positive community classrooms
  • Re-discovering and/or enhancing our love for our profession
