This two-day professional development will look at making connections between ratios, rates, and proportionality in 6th grade to linear functions in 8th grade. Teachers will have the opportunity to look at how to teach these concepts in ways that foster student understanding, instead of focusing on rules and procedure which most often times lead to students' misconceptions about important mathematical content. Teachers will receive the book "Making Sense of Mathematics for Teaching Grades 6-8". TESS: 1C, 1E, 2A, 2B, 2C, 3B, 3C, 4E
Cost: $50 which includes the book “Making Sense of Mathematics for Teaching Grades 6-8,” and ongoing support in the classroom throughout the school year.
