SE Critical Reading
Do you have ninth through twelfth graders who are struggling readers? Come to this session to learn about the Critical Reading standards in order to target 4 areas to build students' critical reading skills. In the first segment, we will learn strategies to engaging the reader. The second segment focuses on adolescent reading comprehension. The next session targets strategies to build vocabulary and word study. Participants will learn practical, time-saving practices for direct vocabulary instruction in Greek and Latin roots. Word study will be addressed through small group intervention lessons. In the last segment participants will learn strategies to help students respond to text. Participants will learn how students' choice of text responce leads to deeper comprehension. Responce to text is generated through thoughtful reflection and comprehension of text. Different methods for student responce including handwriting and electronic responce will be explored so that you can walk away with a solid plan for how to assess students' responce to text.
