This Personal Care training will provide the paraprofessionals in your district that work with special education students who need assistance with their physical dependency needs, the required practical training piece (10 hours) of the required 40 hour training. The 40 hours include CPR/1st aide (6 hours), ADE modules from the Special Education supervisor (24 hours), and this training which is 10 hours of the 40 required. Once Dana Bennett (instructor for this workshop) has proof of the CPR/1st aide and the modules the parapro will receive a Personal Care certificate and be certified for the district to bill Medicaid for the personal care services provided to approved students. The district must employ an RN and the RN writes the personal care assessment/prior authorization on the students that are being assisted. The services that are billable include: bathing, bladder and bowel requirements, eating, dressing, incidental housekeeping, hygiene, shopping, mobility and ambulation.
This training covers everything the district needs to know to bill for Personal Care, it is recommended that the RN who will be writing the care plans and supervising to attend with their paraprofessionals as all paperwork will be covered and so that everyone is on the same page.
