Purpose: This course, "Obesity Prevention and Education for School Nurses: is designed to increase school nurses' knowledge on issues related to childhood obesity.
OBJECTIVES:
- Define obesity and relate current trends in Arkansas and the United States.
- Discuss risk factors for childhood obesity.
- Explain health consequences of obesity.
- Review history and pertinent legislation related to Body Mass Index in Arkansas.
- Demonstrate the process for appropriate height and weight measurement for children.
- List resources available for schools and school nurses to combat childhood obesity.
