This workshop is a continuation of the summer Grasping Phenomenal Science workshops focusing on writing and teaching student-centered, phenomenal lessons using the new Arkansas Science Standards. No previous workshop attendance is required. During the first half of the session (8:30 - 11:30), participants will be presented with a GPS/3D/5E unit within their grade level standards. At least one lesson will be demonstrated in the session, but others will be available. Formative assessments (with minimal take-home teacher grading) at important stages of the lesson will be emphasized, and a STEM extension included. The second half of the session (12:30 - 2:30) will be spent looking at teacher lessons and modifying them to fit the GPS/5E/3D format including attention to formative assessment at critical stages. Specific strategies to improve ACT Aspire scores will be embedded in lessons and discussed in the course of the workshop.
