Behavior Essentials Training

The four-days of Essentials Trainings will cover basic knowledge of behavior. This series of trainings will give participants the foundation of the science of behavior. The Essentials Trainings are designed to provide background information for the follow-up Instructional and Behavioral Strategies Trainings (previously Tier II Trainings) being offered. The Essentials Trainings must be attended in the sequence offered and all sessions must be attended for credit. TESS components addressed for this workshop include: 1C, 2A, 2B, 2C, and 2D, 4B.

The following is the sequence for the Essential trainings:

1. Investigating Minds Want to Know: Basic Behavior Principles (11/6/18)
2. Mission Possible-Defining Behavior (11/7/18)
3. When it Comes to Data We Excel (12/10/18)
4. Catch’ em Being Good-Reinforcement, Punishment and Extinction (12/11/18)

Investigating Minds Want to Know: Basic Behavior Principles
This 6-hour training is fundamental to the understanding and implementation of classroom and student specific behavior strategies.

Mission Possible-Defining Behavior
This 6-hour training is fundamental to the understanding and implementation of successful data collection and behavior change.

When it Comes to Data We Excel
This 6-hour workshop will help participants: determine the best data collection method based on the type of behavior being measured; use a data collection guide which provides an explanation of each type of data collection method and how to summarize data; and understand basic information for preparing a behavioral graph.

Catch’ em Being Good-Reinforcement, Punishment and Extinction
This interactive 6-hour training will help learners gain a greater understanding of basic reinforcement procedures as well as further explore misconceptions related to punishment and bribery.

Important Session Information:

REMINDER: ALL four of the Essential Skills Trainings above must be taken in the above order. Completion of the four is required prior to attendance of the Instructional and Behavioral Strategies Trainings being provided during the 2018-2019 and 2019-2010 school years.

In order to increase preparedness for participation in future BX3 project initiatives, it is recommended that districts form teams that include an administrator, general education teacher and special educator that will attend the Essentials Trainings. Participation in the 4 Essentials, however, does not guarantee acceptance into the BX3 Initiative.

Participants should bring a laptop to this training.
