GFESC - SCIENCE OF READING: AWARENESS, DAY 2



The Science of Reading: Awareness, Day 2 will provide six professional development hours, three of which will count toward the eighteen hours needed to fulfill the requirements for teacher licensure as is applicable.  All eighteen hours must be completed prior to the 2021-2022 school year.

The Day 2 training includes the Five Essential Elements of Effective Reading instruction along with the research that serves as the basis for each of the five elements, an overview of phonological awareness as the foundation on which skilled reading is built, the research behind phonology, and how it applies to classroom instruction in elementary school and beyond.  In addition, there will be information presented on the connection between the stages of development and the skills needed to decode words, phonics instruction for middle and secondary students, and how to assess these older students when reading difficulties are suspected.
