AFESC--Why is There a Final Silent E in Have? And Other Important Questions. Grades 2-4

We have 26 letters in our alphabet and these letters represent 44 English sounds.  The 44 sounds can be spelled in 74 basic ways, 25 of which make more than one sound. This leads students to believe that English is illogical and full of exceptions to the rules. Although English appears to be illogical it is not. This professional learning opportunity is designed to teach 30 spelling rules that affect the pronunciation and spelling of 98% of words in the English language.  These rules can be taught to students of any age and help them become more proficient readers and writers.

Domains 1, 3, and 4
