Interdisciplinary Archaeology Teacher Workshop

Attention all history, STEM, and GT upper elementary and middle school teachers: learn how to introduce archaeology into your classrooms with fun, educational, and hands-on lessons ideas and get some archaeological experience so you can talk about it first-hand!  This two-day long workshop will give you curriculum ideas that will make your students proud of the history in their own backyards and also inspire them to become better citizens with the newfound love of their local history.  On Monday, June 10, at the DeQueen/Mena Coop, we will discuss archaeological concepts that can be easily taught in the classroom.  On Tuesday, June 11, we will meet at UA Cossatot, where a temporary archaeology lab will be set up to support local archaeological excavations.  You will learn laboratory techniques and handle actual artifacts discovered in your area.  Weather permitting, we will also visit the local excavations that day.  Participants have the option of signing up for both days on just the first day.  Teachers who participated in the archaeology pd last summer (7/9/18) are eligible to just participate on Tuesday June 11.  Minimum participants per day 5, maximum 25.
