Do you sometimes think that what used to work doesn’t work anymore or that you just can’t get through to these kids? As professionals, we have to find new ways to reach, motivate, and train our young learners and changing populations…in a quickly changing world. Working in an urban/suburban school with a majority-minority population, Gilbertson has developed skills and strategies to motivate her 300+ students through structure, humor, expectation, technology, and creative approaches to old problems. Included in the day will be hands on interaction with a “spiced up” choral warm up exchange, sight-reading and note learning games, exploring how to use technology, and interactive choral rehearsal strategies with actual choral scores. Participants are asked to bring one or two (or more) warm ups to share and teach. Scores will be provided for “real time/real world” rehearsal management strategies. Registration is available from a link on the ArkCDA Webpage--arkcda.org--and is at no cost to individuals who teach at member schools of ArkCDA.
