SCSC-Academic Optimism & Supporting ELs in Content Classrooms



Academic Optimism: Do you approach your students with preconceived notions concerning academic and social behavior? In this session, participants will explore the topic of academic optimism and how it affects students’ performance. We will also delve into various behavior management strategies/techniques designed to engage all students with an emphasis on English learners.
Supporting ELs in Content: Participants will be able to fill their toolboxes with tried-and-true, research-based strategies that will help ELs better access core instruction. The emphasis is on student talk and interaction which will help students make meaning of content while growing their skills in language development.

TESS components addressed for this workshop include:  1B, 2B, 2C, 3B, 3C.

For member districts of the SCSC Professional Development Consortium the fee has been waived. All other participants including nurses and paraprofessionals will pay the listed fee. In the event of cancellation, registrants will be notified by email (the address tied to escWorks). In the event that an individual cannot attend the session for which he/she registered, it is the individual’s responsibility to cancel using his/her escWorks shoebox. Cancellations may take place up to the day before the session(s). All "no-shows" will be invoiced the full price.
