DSC DNA Barcoding Real-world Genetics

Bring the real world to your classroom with DNA Barcoding, a method of identifying and classifying living things at the genetic level. You will learn how to use the MiniOne PCR System and how to make it applicable for the biology classroom for a real world experience.

Your students will have the opportunity to participate in a grant project through OBU with Dr. Nathan Reyna if you attend the June 11 and August 5, 2019. The project centers on using DNA Barcoding as a way to identify the presence of Sap Beetles in Arkansas’s forest and parks. Further, once found we will use a molecular technique to determine if these beetles are carrying the Oak Wilt fungus using the MiniOne PCR System.
