AFESC--K-1: Using Decodable Texts During Small Group Reading Instruction

Differentiation in small group reading instruction includes differentiating the types of texts that are used. Young students who are beginning to learn to read benefit from using decodable texts to practice the skills they are learning in phonics instruction.  We will focus on the progression of skills students need to become proficient readers from kindergarten to second grade, how to assess students for group placement, and practical plans to differentiate small group instruction to meet individual student need during this critical time in their day.
