The Director of Education from the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center (MTCC) will discuss the mission of the museum, resources available to teachers, and ways to incorporate Black history into every history lesson. MTCC offers tours, programs, and outreach 12 months a year for school groups free of charge. Participants will have the opportunity to experience one of the most popular programs offered by the museum, Speaking Up, Speaking Out and follow up with a discussion of how activism and race play a crucial role in our current society. A presentation on incorporating diverse books into the classroom along with samples of the books will be discussed. Finally, ideas and examples of how to incorporate STEM initiatives into the history classroom or creating a multidisciplinary approach to topics will be modeled. MTCC has a loan box that will be unveiled for the 2019-2020 school year about transportation, answering the question: What contributions have African Americans made in the field of transportation and how do their contributions affect me today? Students will learn the historic significance of African Americans contribution on transportation as well as the types of STEM skills necessary to make said contribution.
