NAESC w/Ozarka College - Authentic Science Practices in Arkansas K-12 Classrooms

Arkansas K-12 Science Standards emphasize authentic science practices in K-12 classrooms which are embodied in the Science and Engineering Practices (SEP’s) of NGSS.

This six-hour PD will allow K-12 teachers to engage in lessons on the cycling of matter and energy through living systems through activities focused on photosynthesis and cellular respiration.  Collecting and analyzing data will be emphasized in a lesson geared toward middle grades, but can be adapted for high school, or even elementary. Strengthen your content knowledge about photosynthesis and cellular respiration as you participate in these hands-on activities.

Teachers in grades 6-12 will find the content aligned to their standards, while K-5 will find the workshop useful in reinforcing their own understanding, and thus teaching, of these concepts which can be found spanning K-12 on the learning progression of the Arkansas K-12 Science Standards.

This PD will be hosted by Ozarka College on the Ozarka College campus across the street from the Melbourne Co-op.  Lunch will be on your own.

Audience: Grades K-12 teachers
