GFESC - INTO THE OUTDOORS FOR SAT (STUDENTS ASSISTING TEACHERS)

Into the Outdoors program is devised to assist schools in providing scaffolding for kids at risk.  Students that feel an integral part of the school they attend and establish relationships with teachers and other students within that school are much more successful. Into the Outdoors involves bringing small cohorts of students from each participating school and providing them instruction to serve as teacher assistants in local outdoor education.  It is also an opportunity to get your students into the outdoors excited about nature and the environment.  Students will participate in kayaking, archery, water studies, birding, and outdoor physical education.

Each school will be allowed 5-10 participants based on school size and need.  Teachers will receive 6 hours of professional content development.

Important Session Information:

LUNCH WILL BE PROVIDED FOR STUDENTS AND TEACHERS AT NO COST.

Teachers will need to sign-up online.  Limited to 10 school districts without special arrangements through Dr. Curtis Varnell.  Each teacher can bring up to 10 students but will need to notify Dr. Varnell immediately upon sign-up as to the number they expect to bring. You will be assigned a group at that time.  There will be four rotating sessions to which you and your students will be assigned.

This workshop will take place at the Janet Huckabee River Valley Nature Center from 9:00am until 2:00pm - for bus students.
