NWAESC(2095)---EoE: Standards Based Grading in Secondary Science

Join Co-op specialist, Carly Geanolous, and Presidential Award Winner, Tiffany Taylor to explore how to implement Standards Based Grading into the secondary science classroom. Standards Based Grading (SBG) gives students specific, itemized feedback according to your content learning objectives. This feedback provides students insight into what ideas they do and do not understand, and helps provide next steps for you and the student. Students can focus their practice on concepts that need further study before they reassess to show learning. SBG encourages a growth mindset to both teaching and learning, and this workshop will offer insight from 5 years of practical implementation in a high school science setting. Participants will be shown an incremental approach to implementing SBG based on content standards, and will be given structured time and feedback to write standards, create assessments and look at gradebook options.
