AFESC--Designing a Trauma Sensitive Classroom, Zoom

Arkansas leads the nation in the number of students who have experienced at least one adverse childhood experience.  With the current Covid-19 situation, many more students will have experienced trauma than ever before. This beginner-level session is designed for teachers interested in implementing a trauma-sensitive classroom, including how to structure the physical environment to promote safety, establishing relationships with students and families, supporting regulation, analyzing the language of trauma, and how to address discipline and empowerment.  Strategies from Ruby Payne’s Emotional Poverty and Heather T. Forbes’ Classroom 180, will be utilized as well as other best practices from other prominent researchers in the field of student trauma.  This will be a digital session.  Participants will receive a zoom link prior to the training.

This session will be via zoom. If possible, along with your computer, please have available paper, pen, and phone. For the best learning experience, we ask that participants keep their cameras on and stay muted unless speaking.
