The Arkansas State Literacy Standards (ASLS) for Kindergarten recommend instruction in three types of writing: opinion, informational/explanatory, and narrative. This session will address the following: setting up a developmentally appropriate environment, building a community of writers, and the writing process. In addition, multisensory instructional strategies for teaching the foundational skills of handwriting, spelling, and sentence construction will be provided. Lesson design that addresses instructional structures and mentor texts for each type of writing will be included.
