This presentation is intended for teachers, therapists, and paraprofessionals working with students of all levels and ages. Participants will be exposed to a variety of literacy concepts, but particularly those that support the inclusion of students with low incidence disabilities. This session will combine the principles of Universal Design for Learning with the use of assistive technology options to provide participants with a wide range of adaptations that make literacy accessible and fun for all students. By facilitating the design and implementation of a flexible, responsive literacy curriculum, UDL offers options for how information is presented, how students respond or demonstrate their knowledge and skills, and how students are engaged in learning.
By connecting the concepts of UDL and AT we will strive to convince educators that literacy can be meaningful and interactive for every student. Participants will learn about introducing new texts and expanding access to students by using a variety of AT devices and strategies.
