Our brain is wired to make assumptions in order to work efficiently and keep us safe. This sounds great, except when it results in us making assumptions that are contrary to our stated beliefs that impact others negatively. This beginning-level session is designed to help educators build knowledge on how bias influences our day-to-day interactions with students, families, and colleagues. We will explore how bias infuses policies and practices in schools, and we will discuss what we all can do to reduce bias and its effects in our classrooms. Resources and strategies will be shared to help you create more inclusive schools and classrooms. This session will be presented by four educators from our region working together to reduce bias: Shavon Jackson, principal at Crawford Elementary in the Russellville School District, Dr. Donna Wake, Associate Professor from UCA, Candace Smith, Gifted and Talented Specialist at Arch Ford, and Dr. Julie Workman, Instructional Leadership and Learning Specialist at Arch Ford. We welcome educators and administrators from all levels to join us in this conversation!
