Join us for a half-day (3hours) of
professional development and collaboration with your peers to earn your first
microcredential: Redirecting Student Behavior to Meet Classroom Expectations.
Microcredentials are a personalized, self-paced learning process, supported by
coaching and collaboration with peers to give educators control over their
professional learning, which results in a more authentic, meaningful
experience. Micro-credentials, like other nationally recognized teacher
certifications, allow teachers to distinguish themselves as accomplished,
effective educators who have met the most robust standards in the profession,
via a portfolio of their practice. Successful completion results in a digital
micro-certification that educators can add to their portfolio and resume to
showcase the skills they develop throughout their careers. This microcredential
is approved for advancement on the Educator Career Continuum.
REDIRECTING
STUDENT BEHAVIOR focuses on how an educator creates a tone and impacts the
relationship between the teacher and the community of students. Positive
redirection includes a variety of methods including but not limited to
non-verbal cues, physical proximity, private conversations and signals,
highlighting existing positive behaviors, prompting with questions, and making
specific requests with fewer words and less emotion to ensure accountability to
the shared norms. By positively redirecting student behavior to align with
expectations, educators create an environment of warm demanding where students
are held accountable to learn in a respectful way and future off-task behaviors
are decreased.
