This VIRTUAL course is based mostly on a book “Teaching Pre-employment Skills to 14-17-Year-Olds” by Joanne Lara and Susan Osborne and highly endorsed by Temple Grandin. In the foreword Temple Grandin notes that her identity is based on her work. Many of our ASD students fail to find work that can provide the sense of worth and identity that other students enjoy after high school. In addition, several ideas and topics will be discussed based on a number of Temple Grandin’s books. Participants will gain specific skills to teach and cultivate. The authors Lara and Osborne have registered the Autism Works Now! Method. “The authors combine concepts of engaging deep interests with practical strategies for finding and keeping a job. A great step forward in making fulfilling and productive employment for autistic individuals the rule rather than the exception.” – Stephen M. Shore, Ed. D.
After attending this course, you will definitely want to invest in purchasing the book. Feel free to borrow a copy from Clara Penney’s lending library if you want to review the book first.
