AFESC--Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Principles for All Learners (Zoom Session)



Universal Design for Learning UDL) has been around for almost 40 years and is embedded in the fabric of education. UDL Guidelines are a tool used in the implementation of Universal Design for Learning, a framework to improve and optimize teaching and learning for all people based on scientific insights into how humans learn. Many are not even aware that present practices implemented every day in instruction and learning are rooted in UDL principles. In this professional learning experience identify the why of UDL principles and how implementing it with a deeper understanding will provide educators with the fundamentals of what can take place when UDL is done with clarity and purpose. 

Participants will engage in an overview of the UDL Principles in the first two hours of the course through a virtual live interactive presentation. For those that wish to explore and apply their learning further, an interactive asynchronous experience will be provided. Participants can choose either the two -hour overview (2 hours of PD credit) or the two-hour overview with the 4-hour asynchronous project-focused course to receive 6 hours of PD credit. Topics to be addressed will include accessibility, visible and invisible barriers to learning, providing a variety of ways to present learning experiences for students, student-self regulation strategies, addressing means of student comprehension, student executive functioning skills, and guiding students to becoming expert learners.
