WDMESC: Building Connections: A Team Approach to Education After Brain Injury

Brain injury is a high incidence medical event in children and youth, but a low incidence disability in schools. Brain injury can have a significant effect on educational performance. Yet, only 4% of children receive inpatient rehabilitation following brain injury, which means most children recover in the school environment. Successful return to learn requires coordinated care and support. This professional learning opportunity will focus on important issues that educational teams should consider and address to promote student participation and performance. Participants will learn a model of system support to foster collaboration among educational team members.  This training is appropriate for speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, general and special education teachers, administrators, psychological examiners, and school nurses.
