NWAESC(2095)---Obesity Prevention Education and Body Mass Index Protocol
Participants will identify health factors related to obesity. Participants will learn the approved technique for height and weight measurement in school-age children to correctly determine a child’s body mass index. All nurses who will screen and record height and weight measurements in a school setting are required to attend this workshop. **Goal: **To provide nurses with the knowledge to demonstrate the approved technique to perform height and weight measurement in the school-age child and calculate body mass index according to protocol developed by the Arkansas Center for Health Improvement. Nurses will be able to identify chronic diseases related to obesity in the school-age child. **Learning Outcomes: 1.) Participants will verbalize chronic diseases related to obesity. 2.) Participants will demonstrate the approved technique for height and weight measurement in school-age children according to Arkansas Center for Health Improvement. Instructors: Community Health Nurse Specialist and Community Health Promotion Specialists Arkansas Department of Health is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the Midwest Multistate Division, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. The Planning Committee & Faculty attest that NO relevant financial, professional or personal conflict of interest exists, nor sponsorship or commercial support obtained, in the preparation or presentation of this educational activity. Course Completion Requirements: Participants must attend the entire event and must complete a course evaluation in TRAIN within 2 weeks (14 days) after taking the course. Anyone not completing the evaluation within 2 weeks will be withdrawn from the course.
